One of my favorite things to do is watch live music, and I’ve been lucky enough to see pretty much all of my favorite bands live at least once, some twice. The last two years, however, have been quite miserable on the concert front for obvious reasons.
In late 2021, the Covid storm finally appeared to be clearing up and bands began touring again. I bought tickets to see one of my favorite bands, The Front Bottoms. Boy was I stoked… until I woke up one morning just weeks before the show to an email explaining that the venue would be checking for proof of vaccination before entering. I was devastated. I thought I’d for sure have to request a refund for the tickets, but eventually (after a concerning amount of digging on the venue site) found out that I could show a negative test in place of a vax card.
I eventually went and it was one of the coolest experiences of my life.
And it is likely my last.
You know why? The effort exhausted beforehand in order to even get in the venue was so taxing that it kind of killed my concert-going spirit.
I would consider myself extremely lucky, though. After all, this is really the only thing I truly lost during the 2-year-long overreaction to the virus. Some have lost so much more.
Some missed out on attending school with their friends.
Some missed walking the stage for graduation.
Some lost their jobs, even after being hailed as the previous years’ heroes.
Some lost the last good bye to a dying family member.
Some missed cancer screenings and life-saving medical procedures.
Some lost their businesses while large corporations lined their pockets in the largest transfer of wealth in history. And to all of those virtue signalling “progressives” who claim to despise corporations while demanding more lock downs and tighter restrictions that ensured large corporations a monopoly on the patron traffic while small business owners fought to stay open and in doing so were either arrested or acquired impossible fines, to all those disillusioned ideologues who cried “please big daddy government, it’s too dangerous, let us stay home and pay us a living wage,” to all who cheered on the policies that effectively led to less mom and pop shops and more billionaires nationwide - go fuck yourself, yeah?
But all that’s old news now. Big Media has its sights set on some newer, younger tail:
The media would have us leave Covid in the dust - and, don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled to move on.
But here’s my concern: now that something more newsworthy has made its way into the daily news cycle, we will likely end up forgetting what went down over the past 2 years. Moreover, there are current Covid headlines that aren’t getting the traction they deserve for one of two reasons: either 1) the Ukrainian issue is much more pressing or that 2) the newest headlines aren’t a good look for literally anyone who was involved in the Covid policy making process.
I guess both things could be true. Take a gander and decide for yourself:
Meanwhile in the UK:

And just a month ago, it was reported that the CDC has withheld a considerable amount of its Covid hospitalization data for fear of its being “misinterpreted” (a reason that is rather funny to me because I previously wrote extensively about this idea, though on a slightly different topic):
What is really irksome about all this is that there have been people trying to call attention to the lack of differentiation between deaths with Covid and deaths from Covid since the beginning. People like Joe Rogan and some of his guests, Steven Crowder, and Tim Pool to name a few. You know what happened to these voices? They were discredited. People wanted them shut down and banned for spouting these “conspiracy theories.”
Sure, there were local news outlets reporting on this, but does anyone remember the drunkard whose death was wrongly coded in 2021? No? What about the motorcyclist whose death was coded for Covid in mid-2020? No? Well, you can thank places like CNN - a.k.a. The Most Trusted Name in News (!) - for choosing to shill for the establishment instead of grabbing it by the balls and making it beg for mercy from its constituency.
I just ask that we all remember this, especially as the news cycle refreshes itself with the passing of time.
Remember that your government attempted to coerce - and, in many cases, did coerce - you into injecting yourself multiple times with an experimental “vaccine.”
Remember that policymakers effectively created a two-tier society in some areas where unvaccinated people were not allowed the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Remember that they were scarily successful in pitting neighbor against neighbor, vaccinated against unvaccinated.
Remember that there is irredeemable corruption between government agencies.
Remember that it’s healthy to be skeptical, and those who tells you otherwise are fascist sonsofbitches.
Most importantly, remember that you’re a goddamn American and that you don’t have to stand for any of this bullshit.
I found your blog insightful and well stated. Your granny would be impressed!
